President of Uzbekistan accused USSR of suppressing freedom

The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev accused the USSR of destroying part of the Uzbek nation in order to suppress its freedom. The application is timed to the day of memory of the victims of repression, which is celebrated on August 31, writes Fergana.

“It was not easy to achieve independence. Although independence was gained 31 years ago, our grandfathers tried to do this more than 100 years ago. 100 thousand of our compatriots were repressed, 13 thousand mercilessly shot. The USSR had an understanding that they were able to free our homeland, bring it to prosperity, ”said the leader of Uzbekistan in the Tashkent Museum of Memory of Repression victims.

He added that the work to identify the victims of repression and their rehabilitation will continue. Over the past year, 235 citizens of Uzbekistan have been justified and rehabilitated by the country’s supreme court.
