The ex-president Pedro Castillo, detained after impeachment, charged with an attempt to organize the rebellion. He faces 10 to 20 years in prison, reports El Comercio.
The former head of state is also accused of abuse of power and violation of public peace. In addition, his name appears in several criminal cases of corruption.
On the eve of the parliament of Peru, Castillo announced impeachment in connection with “constant moral incapacity.” This attempt became the third in the year. In order to prevent the next vote on the issue of removal from the authorities, Castillo said that he was dissolving the parliament and introducing a curfew in the country. He also instructed to appoint the government in a state of emergency and reform the judicial system. However, the actions of Castillo were not supported by the ministers of education, culture, justice, economics, labor and the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – they all resigned. The army and police also opposed Peru. Castillo was detained.
According to El Comercio, soon after that the manifestations began in Lima: the protesters began to break out the paving stones and throw it onto the roadway. In response to this, the police used tear gas.
The new head of state was the vice president of Dean Boluart. 60-year-old Bolaart is the first woman president in the history of the country. She will occupy this post until July 2026.
The United States promised to support the new management of Peru. The organization of American states (OAG) made a similar position, which includes 34 countries of North and South America, except Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua.
