Presidential Candidate Is Named From Ruling Party

The presidential candidate from the ruling party “Georgian Dream” became Mikhail Kavelashvili. This was stated by the Honorary Chairman of the party Bidzina Ivanishvili, local media reports.

“I am glad to report that, in accordance with the decision of the Political Council of the Georgian Dream Party, Mikhail Kavelashvili’s candidacy is presented to the post of president of Georgia,” Ivanishvili’s words are given.

Salome Zurabishvili is the last president of Georgia, elected by direct voting. For the first time, the head of state will not be chosen by the population, but by the election board. It includes 300 members, including all members of the Georgian parliament and the highest representative bodies of the Abkhaz and Adjar Autonomous Republics.
