The Goldman Environmental Prize Prize – a very electoral award awarded for the most important projects affecting the wide range of spheres, from biodiversity to climate, from food security to ensuring the income of local communities, the head of the association stated.
“This is a great pride. Turkey receives a similar prize for the first time. Before you award The Goldman Environmental Prize, our work was analyzed, information from the institutions we work was requested. As a result, we decided to award me as a representative of the Association for Protection for Protection Mediterranean region of Turkey. We accept the prize on behalf of Turkey, ”Kyzylkaya said.
“For us, this award, first of all, means that there is no reason to not go even further in the issue of environmental protection,” said the head of the association.
Kyzylkaya said that thanks to the security system, it was possible to prevent poaching in Gökov by 90 percent. “If in 2008 the fishing business was at zero in Gyokov, now the income began to grow incredible pace. So, when you provide protection for three years, everything happened,” he said.
According to Kyzylkaya, the ecosystem guards in the association chose from among the former fishermen. “It was very important to create a security model and we did it,” he added.
