Sweden and Finland’s intention to join NATO led to a sharp intensification of negotiations on the purchase of advanced arms systems in Israel with these countries, reports “details” with reference to Breaking Defense.
Two former neutral countries only announced their intention to join NATO, and Israeli arms manufacturers are already preparing for new orders. Because both Finland and Sweden understand: everything has a price, and the current Russian leadership with their decision to join NATO will not reconcile, the newspaper writes.
It is noted that both countries had previously been buyers of Israeli defense concerns, but recent events sharply increased the interest of their defense structures in what Israel could offer. Representatives of the Israeli Ministry of Defense refused to comment on the negotiations now, however, senior sources on the condition of anonymity in defense structures reported that the Scandinavians consider the possibility of acquiring Israeli radars, anti -tank systems, and active protection systems for their armored vehicles. Sources also said that Israeli computerized defense systems use the same communication protocol as NATO, which makes them functionally compatible.
Back in March, Finland announced that she wants to purchase an advanced air defense system and was considering only two manufacturers. The Israeli Defense Industry concern (IAI – Israel Aerospace Industries) offers her a modular Barak MX system. And the Rafael concern is the Poksha David system, which is currently part of the multilevel Israeli air defense system, along with the Iron Dome system and the Hitz rocket. At the same time, in March, the Israeli company Elbit received a Swedish contract for $ 27 million for the supply of M339 tanks and data settings for their main combat tanks Leopard. And earlier Elbit concluded a deal to supply anti -minute systems to the Swedish fleet.
