Moldova President Maya Sandu held yesterday a meeting with the head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Odil Reno-Basso, who is on a working visit in Chisinau. The discussions concerned the programs financed by the EBRD and the priorities of the country’s socio-economic development, Moldupres reports.
President Maya Sandu praised the contribution of the EBRD to strengthen the energy security and independence of the Republic of Moldova. The EBRD ensures financing gas procurement from alternative sources, projects to increase energy efficiency and supports the country’s efforts to develop the legislative framework for the production of energy from renewable sources.
The discussions were also focused on the modernization of utilities, such as the central heating system, waste management and the distribution of electricity, which directly affect the quality of life of citizens. The importance of financing small and medium -sized enterprises, which represent 98 percent of all companies in the country, was also affected. In this context, the head of state thanked the bank leadership for his contribution to the modernization of the Republic of Moldova and the stimulation of its economy.
