The project of “spongy cities” can significantly reduce the consequences of climatic changes.
This was stated by Anadolu by the head of the Department of Landscaping Architecture of the Architectural Department of the Istanbul Technical University prof. Hiriye Eshbash Tunchai.
On the one hand, natural disasters in the cities vulnerable to climatic changes lead to serious human victims, on the other hand, the drought causes a lack of water, a decline in agricultural production, hunger, death of people and millions of living creatures.
Model of the “city of spongy cities” was represented in 2013 by the Chinese architect Conggzyan Yu. This model is based on the principle that rainwater is disposed of green plantations in the city, and is also stored in ponds, reserves or suitable storages and is used for drought.
In many countries today you can see a model of “spongy cities”. The British engineering consulting company ARUP measured the spongation of 10 cities, taking into account the presence of blue and green zones in the city, soil type and water flow potential.
According to the data obtained, the New Zealand city of Auckland is recognized as the most capable of absorbing strong precipitation.
Aquarne’s spongation amounted to 35 percent, Nairobi – 34 percent, Singapore, Mumbai, New Orca and Toronto – 30 percent, Montreal – 29 percent, Shanghai – 28 percent, London – 22 percent – 18 percent.
According to Tunchai, for the implementation of the project of “spongy cities” the settlement must have various natural elements.
She mentioned that a system is needed in which part of the water collected in the parks will cyclically reach nature, and the rest is used in accordance with the needs.
“” Legal cities “is a solution based on a natural phenomenon, and if we want to fight climate change, the cities should be integrated with solutions based on a natural phenomenon. Plants form an important layer between heaven and earth, which increases The probability of rain. If we create city projects accordingly, we will be able to fill the reservoirs and dams, ”said Tunja.
