Product prices are growing. They are no longer stopped

The world food prices in 2021 increased by more than a quarter (+ 28.1%), reports Kommersant with reference to the data of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the UN (FAO).

The rise in price turned out to be the largest in recent years – the cost of all major groups of agricultural products increased, and not just grains and oils.

According to FAO experts, it is not necessary to count on price stabilization in 2022 due to “high costs, continuing pandemic and unclear climatic conditions.”

Prices for cereals have become recorded since 2012 (+ 27.2%). In particular, the cost of wheat and corn rose by 44.1% and 31.3%, respectively. The only culture, the value of which decreased last year, became rice (by 4%).

Vegetable oil and sugar rose more than other food types. The cost of oil rose to a record 65.8% per year, the cost of sugar added 37.5% (maximum since 2016). 16.9% was more expensive than dairy products, meat – by 12.7%. The greatest increase was lamb, the beef and chicken are followed.

FAO experts explain that food inflation in the world is caused by the fluctuations in demand, an increase in costs common to producers, including transportation and energy carriers. An additional factor was the local lamb crochet, as well as centralized purchases to the reserves.
