In the Baku court for serious crimes, a lawsuit was held in the criminal case of Agil Babaev, accused of fraud and extortion.
According to Haqqin.az, the indictment at the day before the hearing was announced by the state prosecutor Fuad Musaev.
According to the indictment, Agil Babaev, calling himself the 12th Imam Mehti, from 2007 to 2020, abusing the trust of the inhabitants of Baku and the village of Buzovna, appropriated a significant amount of money. He collected money from them for allegedly charitable goals. At the “religious” meetings organized by him, Babaev said that he was sent to the earth with divine force in order to do good and help people with financial difficulties, emphasized how important it is to believe in it in order to avoid torment of the afterlife and gain paradise.
Babaev knew how to convince people – they paid him monthly. He assured that the money collected is allegedly distributed to those in need and poor, houses are being built for members of the families of the shahids and disabled warfare.
The victim Anar Aslanov, the fraudster, for example, promised to help in the afterlife. Babaev fraudulently lured more than 585 thousand manat from a gullible man.
In the same way, another victim, Nick Sadygov, was deceived. He was promised privileges in paradise and a complete remission of sins. Sadygov sold 543 thousand manat.
Zaur Abdullaev, another victim in a criminal case, to promote his business and the remission of sins monthly paid Babaev 300 manat, a total of 134 thousand manat. In the same way, Aydin Nifaliev, Faik Abdullaev, Kamil Dzhafarov and others were deceived.
The damage caused to the victims amounted to 2 million 500 thousand manat. The accused Agil Babaev said that he was not guilty of charges. The trial will continue on August 23.
