With the entry of Iran, the BRICS is the additional opportunities for working together in the international arena. This was stated by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin at a meeting with a colleague from Iran Masuda Ceseshkian.
“Iran has become a full member of the BRICS, and you know that we actively supported your application. Earlier, we also vigorously contributed to your connection to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Thus, we open up additional opportunities for working together in the international arena” – said Putin.
The President of the Russian Federation recalled that the course of the meeting in Ashgabat considered the main aspects of bilateral cooperation and the most relevant regional topics, as well as “a mutual course for the fully strengthening” ties.
According to him, the connections between the Russian Federation and Iran are on the rise and are truly friendly, constructive. “Soon we will be able to consolidate the results achieved by a new large interstate agreement on a comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and Iran,” Putin said.
“Among the priorities – the implementation of such large joint initiatives as the development of the Iranian railway infrastructure as part of the promotion of a large -scale project of the North – South International Transport Corridor, the construction of the second and third power units of Busher, said Putin. < /p>
According to the Russian president, the expansion of economic ties is also facilitated by the agreement on free trade between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union signed at the end of 2023.
“In general, I emphasize that the approaches of Russia and Iran to the global agenda are close or completely coincide. We are united by the desire to form a fair multipolar world order, compliance with international norms, preserving the central role of the UN,” said Putin.
In turn, the President of Iran called the Russian Federation “dear neighbor” and “great country.”
