Putin canceled his decree on respect for sovereignty of countries

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday canceled his decree of 2012 “On measures to implement the foreign policy of the Russian Federation”, suggesting that Russia will come closer to the EU and the United States and will respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries.

The new decree, as noted, is signed “in order to ensure the national interests of the Russian Federation in connection with the deep changes taking place in international relations.” The decision entered into force on February 21.

In particular, the Decree of the 11th ago suggested that Russia would continue to actively look for ways to resolve the Transnistrian conflict based on the respect of sovereignty, territorial integrity and neutral status of Moldova.

The document also suggested the consistent implementation of the Treaty on the restriction of strategic offensive weapons with the United States. Putin on Tuesday announced that Russia is suspending participation in the contract.

The canceled decree also noted that Russia will “firmly defend the fundamental principles of the UN Charter, which require the development of friendly relations between states on the basis of equal rights, respect for their sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
