Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the situation in the Middle East at a meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council.
“Let’s discuss the current state of affairs and development prospects in this region of the world in the near future,” the Russian leader said at a meeting reported on Friday by the Kremlin’s website.
“Let’s talk about the events that are taking place in the immediate vicinity of our borders, in the Middle East region,” Putin added. “Russia traditionally pays great attention to this region of the world, we have many interests there, many friends and partners,” he recalled. “This is a promising region for the development of our foreign economic relations, traditionally friendly to us.”
According to Putin, head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Naryshkin and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu will make reports on this topic at the meeting.
