Putin Held Telephone Conversation With President Of South Africa

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with the President of the South African Republic Cyril Ramafosa.

According to the Kremlin, the conversation took place on the initiative of the South African side.

The parties discussed key issues of further development of bilateral cooperation, in particular in the trade, economic and investment spheres. It is emphasized that Moscow and Praetory are aimed at strengthening mutually beneficial partnership, including within the framework of BRICS.

Particular attention during the conversation was given to the situation around Ukraine.

Given the interest of South Africa in promoting the peaceful settlement of the conflict, Vladimir Putin outlined the fundamental approach of Russia, focusing on the need to eliminate the indigenous causes of the crisis and ensure the national security of the Russian Federation.

The President of Russia also congratulated Sirila Ramafos and the whole people of South Africa on the upcoming national holiday – the day of freedom, which is celebrated on April 27 and symbolizes the end of the apartheid and the transition to democracy.

The heads of state agreed to continue contacts at various levels.
