Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the appointment of the director of the North Atlantic Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Darkyev as an ambassador to the United States.
“To appoint Alexander Nikitich Darkchiev by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the United States of America and the permanent observer of the Russian Federation when organizing American states in Washington,” the decree published on the official portal of legal information on March 6.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that the American side, during consultations in Istanbul, handed over an official note with Agreman to appoint Alexander Darchiev by the new Russian ambassador to the United States.

Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow and Washington at a meeting of delegations in Saudi Arabia agreed on February 18 to ensure the speedy appointment of ambassadors, as well as to work out issues to eliminate the barriers of the functions of embassies.
“to ensure the speedy appointment of Russia’s ambassadors in the USA and the United States in Russia. To remove those obstacles that for many years, primarily by the Biden administration, were built in the direction of our diplomatic missions, seriously complicating their work,” Lavrov said at the results of Russian-American negotiations in Saudi Arabia.
According to the Russian media, Alexander Darchiev worked in the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation in Washington for a total of about 10 years.
From 1997 to 2002, he held the position of adviser to the embassy, and from 2005 to 2010 -the adviser -uslannik. From October 2014 to January 2021, the diplomat was an ambassador of the Russian Federation to Canada, from January 2021 he served as director of the North America Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (now the North Atlantic Department).
