Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law according to which Moscow recalls ratification of the contract on a comprehensive prohibition of nuclear tests (Dzhai). The corresponding document is published on the official portal of legal information.
The contract was signed on behalf of the Russian Federation in New York on September 24, 1996 and ratified by Russia on May 27, 2000. This multilateral document was supposed to become the main international legal tool to stop any types of nuclear tests.
However, to date, the contract has not entered into force, since it has not ratified eight of 44 countries with nuclear weapons or potential opportunities for its creation.
As noted in the accompanying materials, the adopted law was developed in order to restore the parity of obligations in the field of control over nuclear weapons. At the same time, it is clarified that the document creates a legal basis for Russia’s call for ratification literacy, but does not imply the country’s exit from the other.
The law comes into force from the date of its official publication.
The initiative to recall the ratification of the Drasi entered the State Duma on October 13th.
Senators of the Council unanimously approved the review of the Russian Federation ratification of the agreement on the ban on nuclear tests on October 25.
