Putin: Türkiye will enter club of countries producing atomic electricity

Akkui NPP is one of the largest joint projects in the history of relations of the Russian Federation and Turkey, which will contribute to good neighborly relations. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking on Thursday, on April 27, according to video communication at the ceremony of nuclear fuel delivery to the first power unit of Akku NPC in the Southern Turkish province of Mersin.

From now on, Turkey will enter the club of countries producing atomic electricity, the Russian leader said, noting that the fact that the Akkui project managed to implement up to the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic is the personal merit of President Erdogan.

“If there was no such president as Erdogan, it would be difficult to talk about success,” he stressed.

According to him, technically, Akkui NPP is equipped with the newest and safest equipment in the world.

Putin promised that Russia will continue to reliably provide Turkey with energy resources and, above all, gas. “With the launch of a gas hub in Turkey, the trade turnover between Ankara and Moscow will continue to grow,” said the politician.

The Russian leader noted further that Russia and Turkey intend to further develop economic and trade relations.

Moscow and Ankara are also advocated for increasing the number of flights committed between the two countries, the Russian leader stated.

Akka NPP is built in the Gulnar area on the South Coast of Turkey on the Russian project, which includes the construction and commissioning of four power units with a VVER-1200 with a total capacity of 4800 MW.

The power plant after commissioning plans to generate 35 billion kW/h electricity per year, which will cover 10 percent of energy from the general needs of the country.

The estimated period of operation of the Akkui NPP is 60 years, which will subsequently be extended for another 20 years according to the results of control and inspections. The contribution of Akku NPP to the economic development of Turkey is estimated at $ 50 billion.
