At Sotheby’s auction in Paris for € 16,251 million sold a rare picture of Vincent Van Goga of the Parisian period “Street scene on Montmartre”, dated 1887.
The canvas was kept for more than a hundred years in one French family and only in March was presented to the public. The owners put it on Sotheby’s with the mediation of the auctioneers Mirabaud Mercier.
The initial assessment of the canvase reached € 5-8 million. At the auction of March 25, the rates increased ten minutes after the start of trading. The result of at € 16,251 million is not a record for Van Gogh, but the great success of Sotheby’s in the framework of the “Art of Impressionists and Contemporary Artists” presented on the current sale.
