Rector of Kiev University in an interview with HaqQin.az: “Pandemic has forever changed education system”

Pandemic has forever changed the global education system, which will never be such as it was up to a pandemic COVİD-19. With this confident conclusion, not only the world expert community, but also the leaders of famous universities.

In an interview with Haqqin.az, the rector of the Kiev National University named after Taras Shevchenko, Vladimir Bugrov, who participates in the Baku Economic Forum of the UNEC, analyzed new challenges thrown by a pandemic of the modern education system.

– apparently, the global education system turned out to be notophene to such a global call like a coronavirus pandemic?

– unfortunately, it is. Last March, when, when the question arose about the closure of all educational institutions in Ukraine, we turned to the Council to American theorists and remote education practices. It turned out that even the United States with their adjustable distance education system did not have effective teaching techniques in the conditions of Lokdaunov.

– Why?

– you see, in such sciences, like medicine, physics, biology, chemistry, engineering are needed practical classes, experiments. No online classes can replace tactile relationships, a lively teacher’s living connection. Thus, the time itself forces us to look for new opportunities to adapt education to extreme conditions. Apparently, Kovida Pandemic will end not soon. A lot of time will pass until a collective immunity is developed, and Cowid will finally become the usual seasonal ORZ. Not to mention the fact that you need to be ready for new pandemics.

– Does this mean that the current methods of distance education are yesterday?

– No, of course. Most of them will remain a methodological basis, which will be brought into line with new requirements. During a recent trip to France, I was familiar with the systemic changes, which will be entered into the formation of European countries. Work in this direction also goes to the UK.

– What will these changes come to?

– It is already obvious that the guaranteed majority of large lecture flows in higher educational institutions will switch to online mode. Lectures in huge audiences will refuse the place to remote work, which will save not only the loading of large rooms, but also, that is much more important, the time of students. But practical classes will be, as always, carried out in contact mode. As the Chinese say, the crisis is the time of opportunity. So, the process of finding new opportunities for efficient use of distance learning will continue.

– How do you think students are related to these innovations?

– My colleagues working at the Faculty of Journalism, argue that their students are much better absorbing educational material from the displays of their laptops and tablets, and not from the projections on the wall. And the teacher with such a system is easier to reach each student.
