Since May of this year, the Red Hearts Foundation, together with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, has been implementing an environmental project called “Remove the Battery -Save Nature”. Within the framework of the project, the used consumer batteries are collected for their subsequent delivery to Təhlükəli Tullantılar (“hazardous waste”).
After four months from the date of start of the project, the Fund collected about 200 kg of unsuitable batteries using special containers installed in supermarkets. This means preventing pollution of about 43 thousand cubic meters of land.
The main goal of the project is to separate the used batteries from other waste, minimize their negative impact on the environment and human health.
The project has a very important environmental and educational significance from the point of view of environmental protection, restoration of the ecological balance, encourage secondary processing, waste reduction, prevention and effective management of harmful effects of batteries. In the future, it is planned to place boxes for collecting batteries in other cities and areas of the country.
