Representatives of Rokhinja nation in the UK and the United States filed a collective lawsuit against the social network Facebook, accusing it in inciting hatred during the conflict in Myanmar. According to The Guardian, the amount of the claim filed to the California Northern District Court is 200 million dollars.
Representatives of Rohintja accuse Facebook in the fact that the social network contributed to people’s persecution in Myanmar, since there were no reports that hate to representatives of the Muslim minority was not deleted, but, on the contrary, were shown users in priority due to their popularity. The lawsuit claims that the features of the work of Facebook algorithms led to increased negative attitudes towards Rokhinja in Myanmar. Representatives of the plaintiffs claim that Facebook did not hire local moderators who would have disassembled in a situation, and did not remove the groups and page pages where appeals were repeated for reprisals over Rokhinj.
In Meta, owning Facebook, has not yet commented on. Previously, UN experts voiced the opinions that Facebook could play a role in the worsening situation in Myanmar in 2017.
