In a number of regions of Kazakhstan on Tuesday, residents have reached shares in support of protesters in the Mangystau region against increasing liquefied gas prices, Interfax reports with reference to the social network.
According to the information distributed in social networks and messengers, the most numerous rallies are held in Aktau (administrative center of the Mangystau region) – about 16 thousand people gathered here, and in Zhanaozen – about 10 thousand protesters.
In Nur-Sultan, those who came to the action demanded to organize a teleconference with protesters in Aktau in order to express their support. Police detained several people.
In Atyrau (in the West), hundreds of protesters gathered in Atyrau and Mahambeta Square. In Taraz (the Admsentser of the Zhambyl region, in the south) on a rally, among others, marital mothers and journalists came out. According to local media, police started detention.
On Sunday, car owners in the city of Zhanaozen (in the Mangystau region) came to the rally demanding to reduce the prices of liquefied gas, which from January 1 rose from 60 to 120 tenge per liter. Similar rallies continue in the Aktau Regional Center. Kazakhstan President Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev instructed the government “urgently consider the situation in Zhanaozen, taking into account the economic feasibility, in the legal field.” Currently, according to the press service of the government, members of the Government Commission are negotiating with activists in Aktau.
