The ancient city of Aizana, discovered by European travelers 199 years ago in the Chavdarhisar region in the province of Kyutaya, carries traces of a thousand -year history of the region.
The ruins of the ancient city, located 57 kilometers from the center of Kyutai, were discovered by European travelers in 1824.
The first excavations in the ancient city were carried out by the German Archaeological Institute in 1926 under the leadership of Martin Master and Daniel Krenker. Since 1970, excavations have been carried out on a systematic basis.
In 2011, Turkish archaeologists connected to the excavations, since the institute was canceled by the corresponding license.
At the moment, excavations in the area of the ancient city are engaged in the university in Kutheye Dumlupinar (DPü). Excavations are carried out under the leadership of the head of the Department of Archeology of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences with the support of the Governor of Kuthesia and Sponsorship Gürok Turizm Ve Madenclik and Halk Yatırım. Archaeological excavations continue in four parts of the city. Along with excavations in the ancient city, restoration work is also carried out.
