In Riga on Thursday, March 28, events are held dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the membership of Latvia in the North Atlantic Alliance.
According to the Latvian state media, at about 9.00 local time at the Freedom Monument with the musical support of the orchestra of the headquarters of the National Armed Forces (NVS) launched the large flag of Latvia NATO-20.
at 12.40, the monument will be held at the color laying ceremony dedicated to the visit of the chairman of the NATO military committee, Admiral Rob Bauer. The event will also be attended by Minister of Defense Andris Spruds and the commander of the NVS, Lieutenant General Leonid Kalnins.
Closer to one in the afternoon, an air parade of NATO fighter aircraft is expected, which patrol the sky above the Baltic.
At 13.00 on Freedom Square, the chairman of the NATO Military Committee and the Minister of Defense will open the NATO-20 photo exhibition, which will tell about Latvia’s path to NATO, Latvia’s contribution to the Alliance, participation of the country in international operations, general teachings of allies in Latvia and for line, as well as other topics related to the membership of Latvia in NATO.
The opening of the exhibition will be attended by soldiers of the NATO participating countries, who are now acting official duties in Latvia. The musical representation of the orchestra of the NVS headquarters is also planned.
From 8.30 to 16.00 on Freedom Square, it will also be possible to visit an exhibition of military equipment of the allied countries and meet with the military group of the expanded presence of NATO in Latvia.
