Rusal Launches Production Of Valuable Rare -earth Metal Scandia

Rusal, one of the largest Russian producers of aluminum, will create an experimental production of Scandia oxide with a capacity of 1.5 tons per year. This is stated in the company’s press release.

“All world production of Oxide Scandia is estimated at 20-25 tons per year. Scandium is a valuable rare earth metal, the rosal first developed and introduced aluminum-scandium alloys. Allocated alloys for the production of ultra-light products in civilian shipbuilding, cars, in 3D printing of high-tech prostheses,” the said in press release.

The company noted that the experimental plot for the production of 1550 kg of Oxide Scandia per year is created at the capacities of the theological aluminum plant (Krasnoturinsk, Sverdlovsk Region).

Its launch into operation is scheduled at the end of 2025.

“Valuable rare -earth metal Scandium is produced mainly in the form of Scandia oxide (SC2O3), the world production of which fluctuates within 20-25 tons per year,” the message says.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin and the head of the White House Donald Trump said that Moscow and Washington could cooperate, in particular in the field of rare earth metals.
