The Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation is celebrated annually in the country on August 22.
August 22, 1991 The Supreme Council of the RSFSR decided to consider the official national flag of the Russian Federation “The historical flag of Russia – a panel of equal horizontal white, lazor and scarlet lanes”, and by decree of the President of the Russian Federation of December 11, 1993, the Regulation on the State Flag of the Russian Federation.
December 25, 2000, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the Federal Constitutional Law “On the State Flag of the Russian Federation”. In accordance with the law, the state flag of the Russian Federation is a rectangular panel of three equal horizontal stripes: the upper – white, medium – blue and lower – red. The ratio of the width of the flag to its length is 2: 3.
The first mention of the White-Sine-Red Flog dates back to 1668, when it was raised on the first Russian ship “Eagle” during the reign of Alexei Mikhailovich, and in 1693 it became the personal standard of Tsar Peter I. The flag became the state symbol under Peter I. On January 20, 1705, he issued a decree according to which the white-blue-red flag should raise the sample himself “on all sorts of ships” and determined the order of horizontal stripes.
In the reign of Alexander II in 1858, a new imperial state flag was approved. There were other colors on it: black, yellow and white.
January 1, 1865, the name of Alexander II was published, in which the colors are black, orange (gold) and white were already officially called the state flowers of Russia.
So in Russia there were two flags at once. Black-yellow-white was hung out on state-owned buildings, and white-blue-red-on private ones, it was posted on holidays.
April 28, 1883, the command of Alexander III was announced, which stated that the state flag would become an exceptionally white-blue flag.
In 1917, the Provisional Government retained this flag.
In April 1918, the flag was replaced by a red panel. It was the red flag that was the state flag of the RSFSR, and then the USSR.
There is no official interpretation of the flowers of the flag, but the following symbolic description is the most common: white color symbolizes purity, independence and peace; blue – the color of faith, devotion and justice; Red color symbolizes energy, strength, blood spilled for the homeland.
