“The gas import agreement signed between Baku and the EU does not contradict the provisions of the declaration on the allied interaction between Russia and Azerbaijan.” This was stated at a briefing by the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Ivan Nechaev.
According to him, we are talking about the memorandum of mutual understanding of strategic cooperation in the energy sector, which was signed between Azerbaijan and the EU July 18.
“We do not believe that such an industry document is contrary to the provisions of the declaration of allied interaction between Russia and Azerbaijan of February 22,” Nechaev said.
According to him, any state has the right to independently decide how and with whom to develop relations, including in the oil and gas region.
