Russia has lost almost a million population over year

Last year, Russia lost about 750-780 thousand people, calculated the economist, professor of Moscow State University Natalya Zubarevich.

She noted that such a reduction in the population is not compensated by the migration stream to the country, which in 2021 was about 250 thousand people.

According to Zubarevich, the reason for such a demographic failure is that the “echo of the socio-demographic catastrophe of the Second World War” still affects Russia. Now in active economic life, a generation of “grandchildren of war” is involved, which has affected the crisis of the 90s. This generation is quite small and does not plan to give birth to many children.

“The result – until 2030, the number of young able -bodied ages (and Rosstat considers them from 20 to 40 years) will be reduced by 6.5 million people,” she explained.

In this case, the number of senior able -bodied ages will grow ” – employees of pre -retirement age, but there will be difficulties with entering the youth labor market, the specialist predicts.
