Russia lost at least 600 thousand workers due to mobilization

The Russian economy has lost at least 600 thousand working hands due to mobilization, Russian media write.

According to the report of the Ministry of Economic Development, the number of labor under the age of 15 years in September was reduced from 75.5 to 74.9 million people. The number of employees decreased as much. At the end of August, 72.6 million people were employed, and at the end of September – 72 million unemployed at the same time became more than 30 thousand, which raised the unemployment rate to 3.9%. These are only September indicators, the numbers over October can be higher.

“In the worst scenario, the economy can lose up to 1.4% of the workforce. Mobilization is a blow to demography, the labor market and the investment climate, which took place at a time when the economy loses access to Western technologies and equipment,” said Director for Loko-Invest investment Dmitry Field.

According to Forbes, 700 thousand people left Russia in the first week of drafting into the army.

“After the mobilization of mobilization, the negative migration balance amounted to at least 250 thousand people. But most likely, 300-350 thousand so far irrevocably left the country, and the vast majority of them are men,” the demographer Alexei Raksha evaluates.

According to the professor of Moscow State University Natalya Zubarevich, the main consequence for Russia is the loss of human capital. The country loses the most qualified urban male population, which prefers to leave so as not to be mobilized.
