Russian military aircraft began to use the Jayraire airfield in the northern Syria, Russian media reported, referring to the representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
“Russian and Syrian military personnel restored the Jayra airfield destroyed during the fighting in the northern part of the Syrian Arab Republic. This made it possible to organize the joint basing and use of Aviation of the Aerospace Forces of Russia and the Air Force of Syria,” Moscow said.
Representatives of the Russian military department noted that the joint use of the airfield will increase the efficiency of protecting the borders of Syria and the citizens of the Arab Republic in the north and northeast of the country.
The airfield restored lighting equipment and a runway, which will allow, according to the Ministry of Defense of Russia, to accept the aircraft for military transport, operational-tactical and army aircraft.
The defense department of the Russian Federation specified that more than 9 km of fortifications were restored in total during the work and ground protection and defense of the airfield were organized, including deployed air defense systems.
