The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned an armed attack on the Presidential Palace in Njamen, the capital of Chad.
The Russian department reminded that on January 8, in the center of the capital of Chad, the city of Njamen, “a group of unknown persons, allegedly members of the Boko Haram group, made an attempt to penetrate the territory of the presidential palace.”
“Security forces repelled the attack and, according to the information received from the official authorities, the situation is currently under control. Moscow decisively condemns a terrorist sortie directed against the legitimate leadership of the Republic of Chad,” the statement said.
According to local media, in the Dzhambel-Bahr area near the presidential palace there was a shootout between the presidential guard and the armed group that attacked the palace. During clashes lasting about an hour and ended by 21:30 local time, the attackers suffered significant losses.
The Chada government said that the situation is completely controlled and there is no serious threat. However, official information about the personality of the attackers has not yet been submitted.
A number of sources put forward a version of involvement in the attack of the Boko Haram terrorist organization, but the authorities have so far abstained from confirming these data.
