The largest opposition party of Georgia “The Unified National Movement” (UND) holds a protest of the prime minister of the country Irakli Garibashvili after the refusal of the Tbilisi City Court to release ex-president Mikhail Saakashvili for health reasons.
more than 100 supporters of the ex-president gathered on one of the central streets of Tbilisi. There are also party leaders, including the new chairman of the association Levan Khabeishvili.
The rally participants turn to Garibashvili through the loudspeaker, warning that henceforth the opposition will not rest to him and other representatives of the authorities, arranging daily rallies. Law enforcement officers are mobilized at the prime minister’s house, there are no skirmishes and provocations.
Khabeishvili said that the UND intends to stop parliamentary activities after the refusal of the Tbilisi City Court to free Saakashvili for health reasons.
“The National Movement is not going to participate in parliamentary life,” he said, noting that the party plans to meet with the ambassadors of European countries in order to call them to put pressure on the ruling party “Georgian Dream”.
Earlier, the Tbilisi City Court refused the Saakashvili defense party in the petition for the release of the ex-president for health reasons. After the verdict of the court, the lawyer Saakashvili Shalva Khachapuridze said that he intends to appeal this decision in the European Court of Human Rights in the coming days.
