Representative of the opposition Labor Party Sadik Khan re-elected for the post of mayor of London. This was announced on Saturday evening following the final counting of votes, TASS reports.
Khan was able to save his post, receiving 55.2% of the vote in the second round. His main competitor of the representative of the ruling conservative party of Sean Bailey was supported by 44.8% of voters.
In 2016, Khan became the first Muslim at the head of the European Capital City Hall. The elections were supposed to go back in May last year, but were postponed for a year due to a pandemic.
