Parliamentary delegation under the leadership of the Chairman of the Milli Majlis Sakhiba Gafarova is located in Madrid, where he takes part in the 143rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and in the Constituent Assembly of the Non-Aligned Parliamentary Network, which will be held on the Assembly fields.
On Saturday, November 27, on the 143rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the debate on the topic “Modern challenges of democracy took place: overcoming the split and the construction of the community.”
The Chairman of the Milli Majlis in his speech at the Assembly said that now the period we experienced with its complex challenges will be a heavy cargo on global unity and, moreover, a number of states with difficulty cope with problems. The COVID-19 pandemic together with a deteriorating economic situation complicates the situation even more, which in the end can lead to further public polarization and undermine the confidence in political systems.
There is a threat of complete erasing the fine face between the freedom of expression and disinformation. Considering all the circumstances, parliaments should build their work in a diversified key.
Sagita Gafarov’s speaker mentioned that the world community turned out to be nototold to difficulties generated by a pandemic, and that it took him some time to collect and take the necessary steps, taking into account the established setting.
“The promotion of peace and security is an extremely important means of developing democracy, protecting human rights and achieving sustainable development. The liberation of 20% of its internationally recognized territories after 30 years of occupation by Armenia allowed us to initiate large-scale work on the restoration of these areas – work that will ensure Return of 1 million of our internally displaced persons to relatives. Signed on November 10, 2020 by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia, a tripartite statement put an end to the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, “the chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament emphasized.
According to her, it is now necessary to begin preparation of a peace treaty and the process of delimiting and demarcation of borders with mutual recognition of sovereignty and territorial integrity as a principle. Azerbaijan has repeatedly gave Armenia to know about his readiness to normalize relations and put forward a number of proposals on this matter. It should be hoped that the last meeting of the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, held on November 26th, will give tangible results and will provide both the signing of a peaceful agreement and the restoration of communications in the region.
