On April 24, a telephone conversation between the Chairman of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan Sahib Gafarov and the Chairman of the Great National Assembly of Turkey (VJSC) Mustafa Stenopom was held. During the conversation, held on the initiative of Sakhiba Gafarov, the speakers of the parliaments of fraternal countries condemned the statement of US President Joseph Biden in connection with the so-called “Armenian Genocide”.
Speaker Milli Majlis said that this statement is unacceptable and is a historical mistake. She added that such statements could cross the newly emerged hopes for peace and comprehensive cooperation between the countries of the region. Noting that history politicization is an extremely dangerous trend, Gafarov said that Azerbaijan invariably supports fraternal Turkey.
The Chairman of the Turkish Parliament Mustafa Stenop thanked the Azerbaijani colleague for support. He noted that the step taken by the US administration is a big mistake, and expressed hope for its early elimination.
In conclusion, the parties conversations exchanged views on current cooperation and inter-parliamentary relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey.
