The volume of sales of American goods in Canadian stores demonstrates a “rapid decrease” against the backdrop of the decision of the US President Donald Trump to introduce customs duties on a number of goods from Canada. This was reported by The Hill newspaper with reference to Michael Medlin, General Director of Empire Company, maternal feeding company food.
“The share of American products in our total sales is rapidly declining,” Medlya said.
CEO noted that customers “loudly and clearly” say that they need Canadian products.
According to him, the average sales of American products of the company have recently fell by 12 percent.
The main problem of the company in connection with the start of the US duties is related to production. Our supporting partners working in the American sphere of production are directly suffering from return duties. This exerts pressure on them. As a result, they may want to somehow reflect these increased expenses, ”he said.
Additional duties of the United States in the amount of 25 percent of products imported from Canada and Mexico entered into force on March 4.
Later Trump said that he would not introduce duties on products that are subject to free trade agreement between the USA, Canada and Mexica (USMCA), until April 2.
Additional duties for steel imports and aluminum entered into force on March 12.
