Sales Of Electric Vehicles Reached Record Of 17.1 Million Around World

In 2024, sales of electric vehicles around the world reached a record – 17.1 million, which is 25% more than in 2023, follows from the British research company RHO Motion.

At the regional level, sales of electric vehicles in Europe decreased by 3% compared to 2023, amounting to 3 million. The UK has become a leader with sales of more than 400 thousand units of battery electric vehicles, overtaking Germany by the end of the year. In Germany, after the abolition of electric cars at the end of 2023, in 2024, a decline in sales was observed.

In the USA and Canada, sales growth amounted to 9%, reaching 1.8 million, which is associated with tax benefits for electric vehicles. In December 2024, the North America market showed record sales – 185 thousand units.

In China, sales increased by 40%, amounting to 11 million electric vehicles, which is more than half of the world sales. BYD models became leaders in the Chinese market.

In general, sales of electric vehicles in other regions of the world increased by 27% compared to 2023, amounting to 1.3 million.

RHO Motion Director Charles Leicester, commenting on the data, noted that after the record of sales of electric vehicles in 2023, in 2024 there were adverse trends, although general optimism is maintained.
