Sandu announced uselessness of Moldova’s neutrality

Moldova President Maya Sandu, in an interview with the Romanian television channel Digi24, stated that the status of the country’s neutrality laid down in the Constitution does not protect it, but it can only be changed with the widespread support of the people.

“We do not have a parliamentary majority to change the constitution. To change this situation, we need folk support. A lot of time political discourse in Moldova was in support of the neutrality, which, as we see, does not protect us. We have a serious threat to security from Russia, which we encounter every day. At the same time, we are a democratic state, we want to strengthen democracy, and it is important for us what citizens think, ”said Sandu.

According to her, “the authorities observe the constitutional principle of neutrality, since such is the will of citizens.”

“Moldova remains very vulnerable to Russia,” she added.

“Moldova does not have an umbrella in the form of NATO, and we cannot solve this problem overnight. Even if we do not have this safety umbrella, we can find solutions that will provide our citizens with more confidence and security. Moldova still We are vulnerable, and we believe that only when she joins a large European family, can we feel safe, ”said Sandu.
