Moldova President Maya Sandu greeted the decision of the EU leaders to provide the country with the status of a candidate for the European Union. She wrote about this on her Twitter.
“Historical day for Moldova! The EU states have provided us with the status of a candidate for the European Union. The unambiguous and strong signal of the support of our citizens and the European future of Moldova. We are grateful and intended to follow the path of reforms,” wrote Sandu.
At a meeting on June 23, the European Council agreed with the opinion of the European Commission and granted Moldova and Ukraine the status of candidates for joining the EU.
