Moldova President Maya Sandu said that Moldova needs to prepare for the regime of energy saving this winter and explained the situation by the fact that “is not going to sell part of the country” for the sake of cheaper gas from Russia. Her statements on the air on Moldova 1 are given by Newsmaker.
Maya Sandu said that Moldova signed contact with the Russian Gazprom on the conditions on which this could be done then, given the politicized position of Moscow.
“I am not going to sell part of the country only so that we have a cheaper gas for half a year. Our country is independent, and we must adhere to this. Yes, it is hard for everyone. And not least due to the fact that During this time, we did not look for alternatives, did not invest in energy projects – because then we were not interested in this, ”the president said.
She reproached the opposition parties for criticism of an unprofitable contract, noting that they themselves did not sign a long -term agreement with Gazprom, when they were in power and “served Moscow, and not their citizens.”
“They could not and this is impossible for us. Because there are no market conditions. The price is not market, but speculative. Such circumstances are created that gas prices become sky -high,” said May Sandu.
She noted that now the whole world is preparing for a difficult winter and Moldova should also prepare for this and insulate at home. According to her, the government is developing a system of supporting citizens in this connection and discussing financial support with the EU.
