German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to make efforts to achieve a truce in Ukraine. This opinion he expressed on Monday at a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama.
“We together call for President [Russian Vladimir] Putin to go to the cease-fire regime, allow the supply of humanitarian assistance [population] and conduct valid peace negotiations,” Scholz said.
He argued that the OSCE members agreed to work with each other in the name of common security in Europe. “But one of the conditions of this is commitment to the principle of irrevoyability of the borders, the fact that no one will try to shift the borders and that we undertake the obligation to recognize the sovereignty of peoples and states,” said Scholz.
Chancellor said that the Western Balkans “are of strategic importance for Germany.” “This is part of Europe and part of the European family,” he said. “Understanding this, Germany will actively advocate the negotiations on EU in EU as soon as possible to join Albania and Northern Macedonia. This is in our common interests,” Scholz said. He thanked Albania for “one hundred percent” participation in sanctions against Russia.
