Scientists predicted a covid strain with a mortality rate of 35%

UK scientists described a number of possible scenarios for the development of coronavirus mutations, one of which suggests that the death rate of a new potential strain can be 35%. This is stated in the report of the Government Group of Emergency Situations of the UK authorities (Sage), reports RBC.

One of the scenarios provides for the appearance of a coronavirus version, which will lead to a greater number of cases of severe course of the disease and higher mortality among infected.

The mortality rate of this strain may be similar to “other zoonotic coronaviruses such as SARS-COV (a mortality of about 10%) or MERS-COV (about 35% mortality)”, the document says. SARS-COV causes atypical pneumonia, Mers-COV – the so-called camel flu.

Experts consider this option “really possible.” According to them, it is possible to avoid this scenario by introducing additional doses of the vaccine, as well as minimizing the risk of transmission of coronavirus and the import of new options from abroad.

Another possible scenario scientists called the appearance of options that will be resistant to drugs and vaccines against coronavirus.
