The likelihood of the collision of the asteroid Apophis with the Earth in the next 100 years is minimal, testifying the analysis data conducted by Radio Wrongs Goldstone and Green Bank in the United States.
“The probability of a collision in 2068 is minimized. Our calculations show that there is no risk of a collision, at least in the next 100 years,” said the representative of the Center for the Study of Nasa Objects David Farquica.
Asteroid Apophis in the size of 325 meters was opened in 2004. The opening caused an excitement: calculations showed that there is a 2.7-percent probability that Apophis, who received a name in honor of the ancient Egyptian God of evil and destruction, will face land in 2029. Then scientists eliminated this threat, calculating that on April 13, 2029, the asteroid will fly at a distance of 37.6 thousand kilometers from the center of the Earth.
According to the study, on March 5, the asteroid made another flight at a distance of 17 million kilometers from the ground (which is 44 times more than the distance to the moon). Scientists took advantage of this opportunity to study the orbit of the cosmic body, which allowed them to exclude any risk of a collision with land in the next 100 years.
