The warming of the climate of the Earth for two degrees can lead to the effect of domino and will change the life of almost half of the planet inhabitants. The Germans and Swedish scientists came to such conclusions as a result of a recent study, the results of which were published in the Earth System Dynamics magazine.
“We provide risk analysis, not a forecast, but our results still cause concerns,” the collaboration co-author Ricard Winelmann has emphasized.
The authors of the work with the help of a computer recreated three million climate development scenarios on Earth, of which about 30% led to the effect of the domino – irretrievable change in natural conditions. It is noted that for this there will be enough warming of the average temperature on the planet for two degrees compared to the pre-industrial level.
The key points in this process will be the melting of iceboards in Antarctica and Greenland: they will lead to the cooling of warm currents in the Atlantic, which will reduce the amount of precipitation in the tropical belt, as a result of which the Forest of Amazonia will become savanna. Scientists warned that such changes will affect the life of 40% of the population of the Earth, primarily in coastal areas.
To avoid negative consequences, the authors of the study called on to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
