Japanese scientists from Tokyo Medical University believe that tomato juice can lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, the results of their study were published in the journal Food Science and Nutrition.
The experiment lasted a year, during which 481 volunteers regularly drank unsalted tomato juice in unlimited quantities and kept a health diary. After a year, most participants with prehypertension or hypertension had a 3% decrease in mean blood pressure.
It is emphasized that only tomato juice without salt can lower blood pressure, while salty tomato juice, on the contrary, increases blood pressure due to the large amount of sodium.
