Sean Carran, who covered President Donald Trump on July 13, 2024 during the assassination attempt, took the oath and took office as director of the US Secret Service.
The oath ceremony took place in the White House in the presence of President Trump.
Carran, who headed the president’s security unit, will now lead the entire secret service. In his speech, Trump noted the outstanding merits of the new director. “You have done an amazing job. You have a wonderful family, and you are an outstanding person. Congratulations!” he said.
The president emphasized that Carran showed exceptional leadership in ensuring security at the most difficult events, as well as courage, when he “took a chance of his own life, saving me from the murderer’s bullets in Pennsylvania.”
“I am absolutely sure that under your leadership the secret service will become even stronger,” Trump added.
Trump attempt
On July 13, 2024, during a rally in the Batler (Pennsylvania) district, Donald Trump was attacked by a shooter when he spoke to his supporters. As a result of the attack, one person died, two were injured. Trump himself was wounded, but remained conscious.
The US Secret Service said that the attacker was “neutralized.” Later, the FBI qualified what happened as an attempt on the president. The attacker was 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Kruks, who was killed on the spot.
After the incident, the secret service was strictly criticized for “failures in the security system and insufficient coordination”.
