Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić has met in Strasbourg with Jagoda Shahpaska, Minister of Labour and Social Policy of North Macedonia. Earlier the Minister delivered an opening statement at the International Roma Women’s Conference “Protecting the Human Rights and Dignity of Roma and Traveller Women in Times of Crises“.
National measures against discrimination and to combat violence against women, social rights in the context of the European Social Charter, including those of Roma, gender equality, as well as children’s rights in the context of the Council of Europe’s children’s rights strategy were discussed. The co-operation between North Macedonia and the Council of Europe through the joint Council of Europe-European Union project ROMACTED was also on the meeting’s agenda. North Macedonia become a member of the Council of Europe in 1995; since then it has signed and ratified 107 Council of Europe treaties and conventions.
