Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg previewed this week’s meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers at a press conference on Monday (22 March 2021).
Mr. Stoltenberg explained that there is now an opportunity to open a new chapter in transatlantic relations, and that Ministers will exchange views on the NATO 2030 initiative to adapt the Alliance. He said: “We must be bold and ambitious to build a stronger Alliance for the future. Because we live in a more dangerous and competitive world, where challenges know no borders.”
The Secretary General said that Allies will continue consultations on the situation in Afghanistan and they will take stock of NATO’s support for key partners in the Middle East and North Africa. The Secretary General also said that Ministers will address relations with Russia in a session with partners Finland and Sweden, as well as the EU High Representative.
