North Korea sent an additional military contingent to participate in hostilities on the side of Russia. This was reported by the Yonhap news agency with reference to the National Intelligence Service of South Korea (NIS).
It is reported that North Korea sent additional troops to support Russia in a conflict against Ukraine, but the exact number is still unknown.
“From the first week of February, the North Korean troops were transferred to the front line in the Kursk region,” the report said.
Last month, South Korean media reported that North Korea sent from 1000 to 3000 military for battles in the Kursk region on the side of the Russian Federation.
It is claimed that in 2024 North Korea sent about 11,000 military personnel in the Russian Federation.
In June 2024, DPRK leader Kim Jong -un and Russian President Vladimir Putin entered into an agreement on a comprehensive strategic partnership between countries. The contract entered into force on December 4, 2024.
The contract provides for the constant maintenance of partnership based on the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and non -interference in internal affairs. In addition, if one of the parties undergoes an armed attack of any state or several states and is thus at war, the other side will immediately provide military and other assistance to all its funds at its disposal. The document also provides for the interaction of the parties in the fight against international terrorism and in the field of international information security.
