In the American St. Louis, the Champions Showdown Chess Tournament began, in which Azerbaijani grandmaster Shahriyar Mammadyarov participates.
Participants play chess-960, which are also called Fisher Chess, since he, the 11th world champion, came up with such a format. The rules of the game are the same as in classic chess, but the initial layout of the figures is determined randomly.
Today, Shakhriyar spent three parties. He beat American Hikaru Nakamuru, lost to the French Maxima Maxima-Lyagolyu and defeated the 13th World Champion of Harry Kasparov, representing Russia.
In July, Shakhriyar has already twice played Kasparov at the tournament in Zagreb. Moreover, one of the victories was recorded for a record seven moves.
