In Astana, under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan, the 24th summit of the leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization began.
The summit takes place in the “SCO+” format with the participation of heads of state and governments of 16 countries.
Turkey in the summit is prescribed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The event is also attended by the leaders of Belarus, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, Qatar, the UAE and Turkmenistan as observers and partners in dialogue.
A number of international organizations, including the UN, the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), a meeting on cooperation and confidence measures in Asia, the Islamic organization of food security, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the organization of the collective security agreement, the organization of the collective security agency, are also presented. The main agenda of the summit, which takes place under the motto “Strengthening the multilateral dialogue: the desire for a sustainable world and development”, will be the strengthening of the role of the SCO in solving urgent international and regional problems.
Leaders intend to focus their attention primarily on international trade and economics to ensure stability. The summit will also discuss issues of regional security, infrastructure, energy, environment, healthcare, tourism, education, digitalization, transport and logistics.
According to the results of the summit, it is planned to accept more than 20 documents in various fields, including the Astana Declaration, which will reflect the SCO position on current international and regional problems and promising research, as well as the SCO Development Strategy and Strategy and Strategy development of energy cooperation of the SCO until 2030. “
One of the important topics of the summit will also be the issue of combating terrorism. The event will consider the “Cooperation Program in the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism for the period of 2025-2027” and “SCO anti-drug strategy for the period of 2024-2029”.
A decision is expected to make a full membership of Belarus in the sample.
After the summit, the chairmanship of the SCO will go to China.
